Anna Smith Strong Chapter, NSDAR Setauket, Long Island, New York

The Anna Smith Strong Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), was organized on Dec. 10, 1971 at the Stony Brook Reformed Church located on Pembrooke Drive, just off Oxhead Road, Stony Brook, NY. This meeting had been preceded by two recruiting meetings for prospective members at the same location – one on Jul 24 and the second on Aug. 21, of 1971 per Newsday.
The organizational meeting began at Noon with a fingertip luncheon with NY State Regent Jeanette (Mrs. George U.) Baylies officiating; in 6 years she would become President General of the NSDAR. Organizing regent for the chapter was Camilla (Mrs. Wm. A.) Behan of Stony Brook with the acknowledged assistance of Dorothy (Mrs. Robert) Thwaite, a member of North Riding Chapter in Manhassett, and Frances (Mrs. Arthur) Hauser, a member of Gilbert Potter Chapter in Massapequa, both of whom would become associate members of Anna Smith Strong.
